GLEN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Park rangers at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are investigating the change in water flow in the Platte River that flows into Lake Michigan.
A week ago, the water flow drastically changed and the river got deeper.

The new channel is deeper which could make it a popular spot for fishermen who use the nearby public boat launch, but how the water suddenly made that possible is being looked at by park rangers.
Scott Tucker, Superintendent of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, tells Michigan News Source, “Its a dynamic environment and river mouths have shifted with seasons with storms, in this case the dramatic shift is one we have not seen before.”
The Park Service isn’t ruling out the possibility that this shift wasn’t an act of nature, that someone may have done some unauthorized and illegal work here.
Tucker adds he is not aware of any other parks in the area experiencing a change in water flow.
