DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Storms on Monday resulted in nearly 400,000 customers without power at times Monday and into Tuesday.

Residents across Michigan are cleaning up after thunderstorms and high winds ripped through communities and uprooted trees, tore off roofs and downed power lines. Several areas in the state had wind gusts between 70 to 75 miles per hour.

Consumers Energy says more than 94% of customers have service but roughly 111,000 are still waiting for service to be restored. Consumers says power could be out until Wednesday in some areas.

DTE Energy reports more than 260,000 customers without power as of noon. They do expect to have 80% of customers impacted by the storm to have power restored by Thursday. DTE adds they are bringing in crews from across the country.

A 14-year-old girl from Monroe died after being electrocuted by a downed power line and a dog in Ann Arbor died after it came in contact with a downed power line. In Warren, an 8-year-old boy was severely burned after trying to swing from a downed power line.

Utility companies are warning everyone that downed power lines should be considered live and to stay at least 35 feet away.
