TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Some suppliers of snowmobiles in Michigan are reporting parts delayed by supply chain issues causing new machines to arrive in stores later than expected.

According to a 9 & 10 News report, Consultant Shaw Stanley of Spicer’s Boat City, acknowledged that the store had received several machines but late last season. Now the shop has to wait on manufacturers to tell the store how many units they can buy after the slow down in sales during COVID.

Stanley also reported that computer chips are the main reason for supply chain issues.

Ski-Doo manufactured by Bombardier Racing Products, was hit by a cyberattack at the beginning of August which has limited dealers’ access to their inventory ever since.

So far in 2022, U.S. snowmobile sales totaled 53,821, more than half of the international sales. America contributes roughly $26 billion annually to the industry, and more than 100,000 full-time jobs are generated by the snowmobile industry in North America according to the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (ISMA) site.

The President of the ISMA, Ed Klim, acknowledged that Michigan has fallen to 4th place in snowmobile sales in 2022 behind Minnesota, Wisconsin, and New York. In 2021, Michigan was ranked 3rd.

However, Klim mentioned that there has been a tremendous increase in snowmobile registrations in the 2022 season, with Wisconsin and Minnesota leading with Michigan in third place.

Dealers of snowmobiles are encouraging prospective buyers to buy early while there are still units in stock.
