ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A nonprofit wants Ann Arbor to establish its own public power utility following Monday’s storm that knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people.

“Ann Arbor for Public Power” president Greg Woodring says they have encouraged the city to study the feasibility of its own utility.

The city council will consider a feasibility study that looks at creating a new public utility to provide electricity to Ann Arbor. Council members plan to discuss the study during its Sept. 6 meeting.

There are several other Michigan communities that are part of PublicPower.org including Lansing, which create their own energy.
