IONIA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In a case that’s been he said/she said for more than a week, the Michigan State Police have completed a report which asks the Ionia County prosecutor to file criminal charges against the man who shot and injured a Right to Life volunteer last week.

Ionia County Prosecutor Kyle Butler said the state police turned over the investigation which asks for warrants charging 74-year-old Richard Harvey with felonious assault and reckless discharge of a weapon causing injury.

Butler said he hopes to decide on Friday on whether to charge Harvey.

84-year-old Right to Life volunteer Joan Jacobson said she stopped by the Harvey house on September 20 to ask them to vote no on Proposal 3, which would enshrine abortion in the Michigan Constitution.

Jacobson allegedly argued with Sharon Harvey about how to vote on the proposal when Richard Harvey grabbed a .22-caliber rifle from his barn and fired a warning shot into a tree. Jacobson said she was shot in the right shoulder while walking to her car to leave the property. She says she drove herself to a nearby police station.

Harvey could face up to four years in prison if charged and convicted.
