LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News- Source) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive directive on Wednesday instructing Michigan departments and agencies to review aspects of reproductive rights that fall within their jurisdiction. In addition, a press release from Whitmer’s office says the directive identifies ways each department can protect and increase protections for reproductive healthcare.

Gov. Whitmer signed the directive one week before the right to abortion up through all nine months of pregnancy is added to the Michigan Constitution. This will take place on Dec. 24 after Michigan voters approved Proposal 3 in the Nov. 8 election.

“I will continue to use every tool in my toolbox to defend Michiganders’ reproductive freedom, and work with anyone to build a thriving, competitive Michigan we can be proud to pass on to future generations,” said Gov. Whitmer.

Departments and agencies must also identify any laws, regulations, or policies that conflict with the new constitutional right, and work with the Attorney General to address these conflicts.
