LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer is giving the thumbs up to a pair of bipartisan bills to make changes to the Michigan Reconnect Grant Act.

The program launched last year improves a statewide tuition free program and is supposed to also help create a better job market. The Michigan Reconnect program pays the balance of tuition and mandatory fees after any other state and federal financial aid the applicant is eligible for is applied.

The proposed bills would also give adult learners credit for their prior learning and life experiences when they go back to school. The program is part of the governor’s Sixty by 30 goal, which aims to increase the number of adults with a postsecondary degree or credential in Michigan to 60% by 2030.
