WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – While the Biden administration stated on Wednesday it does not support banning gas stoves as previously reported, Congressman Bill Huizinga (MI-04) is lighting a fire through a new bill called the “Stove Act.”

H.R. 263 which is also called the “Stop Trying to Obsessively Vilify Energy (STOVE) Act” would provide a stopgap measure which would prevent the federal government from what Huizinga calls “bureaucratic overreach” from an “out of touch” government.

“The last thing Americans need or want is another big government bureaucratic decision telling us which appliance we can have in our home,” Congressman Huizinga said in a press release.

Supporters of the gas stove bans cite an International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health report from December 2022 which reportedly links natural gas cooking with asthma.

The American Gas Association released this statement, in part,: “[This study] is not substantiated by sound science. Any discussion or perpetuation of the allegations in this report which is funded by non-governmental organizations to advance their agenda to remove consumer energy choice and the option of natural gas is reckless. The authors conducted no measurements or tests based on real-life appliance usage, and ignored literature, including one study of data collected from more than 500,000 children in 47 countries that ‘detected no evidence of an association between the use of gas as a cooking fuel and either asthma symptoms or asthma diagnosis.’ Any allegation that gas stoves exceed standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency and the World Health Organization is patently false. Regulators, like the Consumer Products Safety Commission, should rely on real data and science not unsubstantiated claims of advocates.”

The internet wasted no time.

West Virginia Congressman Alex Mooney is partnering with Huizinga on the “STOVE Act.”

“The Biden Administration’s new effort to ban the gas stoves used by millions of Americans is their latest attempt to advance the Green New Deal. Rural communities in West Virginia rely heavily on gas powered stoves and heaters, Congressman Mooney said in a statement.
