LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A man currently serving prison time for stealing COVID-19 relief funds is also facing charges in a separate case.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Office said Johnny Richardson entered a guilty plea to charges of using cell phone data to empty the bank accounts of victims.

In addition, the Attorney General’s Office released a statement explaining the scam involving cell phone data and using identity information from the dark web to gain authorization.

Richardson and others he was working with routed the cash through several bank accounts. Authorities say he stole around $379,000.
