The 75-year-old Republican millionaire plans to spend $192,000 to air a Super Bowl ad in markets across Iowa. It is a key state in the primary elections.
Johnson, a Bloomfield Hills businessman, announced he has formed his presidential committee, which is the first step before raising and spending money.
Former President Donald Trump is the only announced Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, whom Johnson said he has supported. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is expected to announce her bid soon, and others have thrown their support behind Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
