Johnson was one of nearly a dozen GOP contenders for the state’s top job, but last May he and several other candidates were bounced from the ballot for insufficient and/or fraudulent signatures.

The southeastern Michigan businessman looks like he will join a field that some have described as heavy hitters. Former President Donald Trump has filed papers in a bid for the White House. Former Ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appear to be likely candidates as well.
