LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Ice and snow are expected to descend on Michigan Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, and many municipalities, courts, and schools have already closed ahead of the weather.

The ice storm warning goes into effect at noon Wednesday and continues until 4:00 a.m. Thursday. This is the period when heavy freezing rain is expected.

All but three Michigan counties are under some sort of weather alert. Snow will also be mixed in at the beginning of the precipitation. Ice accumulations of two-tenths of an inch to one-half of an inch are expected.

Utility crews are preparing for power outages.

The National Weather Service is discouraging travel. First responders say if you have to travel and have an accident, stay in your car until help arrives.

In Lansing, the state capitol is expected to be quiet.  Both the House and Senate will not be taking attendance or voting on Wednesday.
