HOUGHTON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As EV vehicles continue to grow in popularity, the need to effectively build the battery needed for those vehicles is increasing. That’s why Eagle Mine has partnered with Michigan Tech University to find ways to produce and reuse nickel.

The production of nickel is important since it’s one of the main components of EV batteries; the only nickel mine in the United States is sitting in The Upper Peninsula.

Eagle Mine and Michigan Tech will also use the U.P. climate as the testing grounds on how to make EV batteries more sustainable in colder climates.
