LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – State asparagus producers approved to continue the Michigan Asparagus Industry Development Program.

The program, established in 1978, is designed to support research and market development efforts that  help Michigan asparagus growers. The approved referendum means the program will continue for an additional five years.

According to the Michigan Asparagus website, roughly 150 local Michigan farmers produce approximately 20 million pounds of Michigan Asparagus during the state’s 6-7 week harvest. The season begins in early May and ends in mid-to-late June.
