DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Holding off the Royals late inning rallies, Detroit won the series taking game three, 6-4, winning their 22nd game of the year. Alex Lange pitched the ninth inning for his ninth save as he struck out one and gave up one run. Will West worked 1.1 innings in the fifth and sixth earning his first win of the year with two strikeouts on no hits and runs.

Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson each had two hits. Greene recorded his fifth home run of the year for one RBI. Zach Short had a home run for three-RBI and Jonathan Schoop had two RBI.

Greene gave Detroit a 1-0 lead in the fourth as the second batter of the inning with one out. His solo shot went 440 feet in right center field for his fifth home run of the year. KC answered back in the bottom of the inning tying the game with their own home run.

It was a pinch hit by Short that boosted the Tigers with a three-run homer to left center field going 416-feet making it 4-1. Detroit gave up one run in the seventh as KC came within two, 4-2.

Schoop doubled to center field in the eighth inning with two outs bringing in Short and Torkelson for a four-run lead, 6-2. Detroit gave up one run in the eighth and one in the ninth for the 6-4 final.

Matthew Boyd started the game going 4.2 innings for the no decision with six strikeouts and one earned run.

Detroit starts a four-game series with the White Sox at home on Thursday night at 6:40 p.m.
