The facility, commonly known as the trash incinerator, will be demolished by a controlled implosion.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says the incinerator has contributed to health concerns and air pollution for the last 34 years. The company shut down in 2019 after pressure from the city and heavy criticism from neighbors over pungent odors and respiratory issues.
