The Council filled a vacant seat on Wednesday night after previous member Allie Herkenroder resigned on July 1 because of health problems. Candice Mushatt, who served as a spokeswoman for former mayor Karen Weaver, will serve on the Council.
The Council interviewed Mushatt on Wednesday along with Mercedes Kinnee, Doug Matthews, and Shannon Searcy.
This is the second meeting for the Flint City Council this week. On Monday, the Council failed to make a decision on ARPA funding allocations, instead bumping the decision about distribution to its August finance committee meeting. The Council discussed a resolution that would allocate $5 million to Metro Community Development, Court Street Village, Habitat for Humanity, and Genesee County Community Action Resource Department. The Council said the distribution plan lacked clarity and transparency, and some members have called the advisory committee which selected the organizations illegal.
Two Flint City Council members, Eric Mays and Tonya Burns, and a handful of residents are suing the city, claiming the city and Mayor Sheldon Neeley violated the city charter and state law by forming the advisory committee.
