EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Officials with Michigan State University said third-party service providers National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (TIAA) have been impacted by a data breach.

The recent MOVEit data breach could have triggered exposure of MSU community members’ personal data.

It is unknown if the hackers accessed personal information. NSC and TIAA will provide MSU with a list of any students or retirees whose information may have been exposed; affected individuals will be individually notified. More information about the data breach is found here.

According to a press release from Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office, a foreign-based ransomware group called “Clop” exploited a security flaw in the MOVEit Transfer software.  It’s estimated that the data breach impacted more than 500 entities and 30 million individuals in the U.S.
