WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – The U.S. House, including 23 GOP members who sided with Democrats, voted to kill a censure of Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib for antisemitic remarks which triggered hundreds to flood the Capitol building on October 18.
Tlaib, the sole Palestinian member of Congress, refused to comment on the slaughter of Israeli babies, but did cry over Israel retaliating against terrorists in the Gaza region.

Three representatives from Michigan who sided with Democrats and voted not to censure Tlaib are Representatives Bill Huizenga, John Moolenaar, and Tim Walberg.
Walberg said on Wednesday night, “As much as I disagree with previous comments made by Rep. Tlaib, First Amendment liberties are for every American, and I will support this constitutional right whether the speaker is on the political left or right and whether they are speaking heinous lies or harsh truths.” He went on to say, “When we hear evil speech, we should not look to the government for the answer but rather speak up as individuals to denounce it.”
His colleague Rep. Huizinga acknowledged to Michigan News Source that what Tlaib said was “vile” but also cited free speech. “We cannot pick and choose when the Constitutional protections of the First Amendment apply,” Huizenga said.
Huizinga clarified in a Facebook post on Thursday morning that, “The resolution to censure Rep. Tlaib was flawed and made both legally and factually dubious claims. This includes the wildly inaccurate claim of an insurrection. That did not happen.”
Calls to Moolenaar were not returned.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) who introduced the resolution wasted no time on Wednesday night calling out “feckless” Republicans and included a list of every GOP member who voted with Democrats.

Last week, Rep. Tlaib put out a statement about the censure. “Marjorie Taylor Greene’s unhinged resolution is deeply Islamophobic and attacks peaceful Jewish anti-war advocates. I am proud to stand in solidarity with Jewish peace advocates calling for a ceasefire and an end to the violence. I will not be bullied, I will not be dehumanized, and I will not be silenced,” Tlaib said.
