PORT HURON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A 70-year-old St. Clair County man has been arrested in the 1980 slaying of a young woman whose body was found in the Port Huron area.
Douglas Laming of Fort Gratiot is facing charges related to 21-year-old Karen Umphrey’s death. Her body was found at the State Game Area in Beards Hills on Nov. 2, 1980.

Advances in DNA testing and genetic genealogical analysis matched Laming to Umphrey’s clothing.
Laming is housed in the St. Clair County Detention and Intervention Center. He will be back in court on December 26.
