LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan GOP Chair Pete Hoekstra is adding another job to his resume.

President-elect Donald Trump has named Hoekstra as Ambassador to Canada.

Hoekstra previously served in the first Trump administration as Ambassador to Holland.

Hoekstra’s role is expected to have a significant impact on the U.S. when it comes to trade deals. In addition, Hoekstra’s position may become a sticking point for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her administration.

Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel have pushed for the shutdown of Canadian-based Enbridge Energy’s Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac. With Trump’s focus on energy independence, Hoekstra could be a key player in keeping affordable energy flowing to Michigan.

“Pete is well-respected in the Great State of Michigan – A State we won sizably,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Pete will help me once again put AMERICA FIRST.”
