LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could soon be in the hot seat over nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic.

U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky) referred Cuomo to President Donald Trump’s Justice Department and Attorney General Pam Bondi for criminal prosecution.

Cuomo was referred to the Biden Justice Department for criminal prosecution in October 2024. Two months later, a  scathing 520-page Congressional report found Cuomo committed “medical malpractice” when he put COVID-19 positive patients back in nursing homes.

Gov. Whitmer issued a similar order as Cuomo’s in April 2020, but she has yet to receive the same scrutiny from the Justice Department as Cuomo.

In related news, Rep. Angela Rigas (R-Caledonia) is inviting small business owners to a subcommittee meeting on Wednesday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. in Lansing. She said the Michigan House Oversight Committee Subcommittee on Weaponization of State Government will host restaurant owner Marlena Hackney of Holland and barber Karl Manke of Owosso for testimony. Rigas said both Hackney and Manke will testify about facing criminal charges for legally and freely operating their businesses even after the emergency powers for the lockdown order were ruled unconstitutional.

“Marlena and Karl are patriotic, law-abiding business owners who were trying to live the American dream and provide for their families,” said Rigas, who is chair of the subcommittee. “Even after the emergency orders were struck down as unconstitutional, they were persecuted for trying to survive and stay afloat. We want to know why.”
