The response from Detroit at Work: “Detroit at Work staff provide participants with guidance and education on the use of marijuana, focusing on how it can affect job search and long-term employment retention. Staff work closely with participants to help them understand the potential impact of marijuana use on their professional life.”
Some of the advice includes the possibility of failing a drug test and “that could prevent them from a career in several well-paying industries such as manufacturing, transportation and logistics, healthcare, and construction,” Detroit at Work stated.
“High paying industries, for instance the construction skilled trades, have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to drug use. Marijuana consumption can affect long term salary earnings in well paying industries,” Detroit at Work stated.
Detroit at Work also informed job seekers that pot can remain in the system for up to 30 days and “longest reported detection time recorded was up to 90 days after last use.”
“If you’re in the process of searching for a job, it’s recommended to stop marijuana consumption as it will affect any drug testing,” Detroit at Work said.
The agency stated that it can’t use federal money for its work because marijuana remains illegal at the federal level.
