On Tuesday, Nessel announced that her department was part of two more lawsuits against the Trump administration, along with 19 attorneys general. Both involved the federal government threatening to withhold federal funding if immigration wasn’t enforced.

The first lawsuit was against the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

The second lawsuit was against the Department of Transportation (DOT) and DOT Secretary Sean Duffy.

“Each agency has imposed sweeping new conditions that would require the states and state agencies to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts or lose out on billions of federal dollars that states use to protect public safety and transportation infrastructure,” the Michigan AG stated in a press release.

The Trump administration wants to withhold federal transportation and disaster-relief funds unless states agree to specific immigration enforcement actions.

Kush Desai, a White House spokesman, said according to the New York Times: “Americans would all be better off if these Democrat attorneys general focused on prosecuting criminals and working with the Trump administration to address the toll of gangster illegal aliens on their communities instead of playing political games.”
