LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Veteran and southeast Michigan native Tripp Adams (D) announced his run for the state’s 10th Congressional District Monday.

Rep. John James (R) currently represents this district, which includes southern Macomb County, Rochester, and Rochester Hills in Oakland County. James has served this district in the U.S. House since 2023. In April, James announced his run for Michigan state governor in the 2026 elections.

President Donald Trump, in a news conference last week, said he is not sure if he is happy with James running for governor.

“Do we have somebody good to take your seat? Cause otherwise we’re not letting him run for governor,” Trump said.

No Republicans have declared their candidacy for James’ seat yet.

Democrats running for this office include attorney Eric Chung, Pontiac Mayor and former state Rep. Tim Greimel, U.S. Army Veteran Alex Hawkins, and former special victims prosecutor Christina Hines.

A Snapshot of Adams’ Career:

  • Served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He continues to serve as an Army Reserve battalion commander focused on Asia-Pacific security.
  • Was the Interim President and CEO of the Truman Center for National Policy and the Truman National Security Project.
  • CEO of a health-tech startup with manufacturing in southeast Michigan.

On his website, Adams said he is a “different type of Democrat.”
