GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Grand Rapids Public Schools are facing about a $50 million reduction in its General Operating Budget in 2025-26.

The reduction is due to the drop in federal money the district is getting, according to financial documents the district released.

Total revenue is projected to drop from $293 million in 2023-24 to $243.5 million in 2025-26. The reduction in federal money accounts for the drop, as federal dollars are expected to drop from $70.7 million in 2023-24 to $21.8 million in 2025-26.

Financial experts have described this as a fiscal cliff  predicted to happen as soon as the federal COVID-19 pandemic money dried up. Many schools have already spent their pandemic relief money, which has to be spent by the end of 2026. The Grand Rapids school district received $104 million in federal pandemic relief.
