LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – There’s no love lost between President Donald Trump and U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Michigan).
President Trump accused Slotkin and two other Democrats of hating the U.S. because of an anti-ICE bill they’re backing. The bill, also introduced by Senators Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) would require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to identify themselves and unmask during immigration enforcement actions.

“They wouldn’t be saying that if they didn’t hate our country, and they obviously do,” Trump said on Fox News. “These officers are doing a tremendous job. They’re great patriots. If you expose them because of statements like have been made by Democrat and others on the left, usually mostly, I think, probably exclusively, you put them in great danger, tremendous danger.”
In addition, the Visible Identification Standards for Immigration-Based Law Enforcement (VISIBLE) Act of 2025 would require immigration enforcement officers to display “clearly legible identification.” Their agency names or initials, along with either their name or badge number must be displayed “in a manner that remains visible and unobscured by tactical gear or clothing.” Slotkin claims the bill is necessary since she claims people have been impersonating ICE officers in recent months.
“Law enforcement should be required to identify that they’re law enforcement while enforcing our immigration laws,” Slotkin said in a statement. “These basics protect officers and the public, promote transparency, and build trust with law enforcement.”
