DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit Public Schools Community District reported that of its K-8 students, only 16% in math and 18.1% in reading were at or above grade level.
It marked the second consecutive year for the district that reading and math scores had improved.

The district’s K-8 math proficiency had jumped from 11.3% in 2022-23 to 14% the next year and then increased to the current 16%.
The K-8 reading proficiency had increased from 13.9% in 2022-23 to 16.2% in 2023-24 to the current 18.1 this past year.
The district also reported that its four-year graduation rate had increased from 65% in 2020-21 to 78% in 2023-24.
