CHELSEA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan native and Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels appeared on “The Best People with Nicolle Wallace” this week making sure to skewer President Donald Trump and the people who voted for him.
While it’s no surprise that someone with a decades-old career in Hollywood despises Trump, Daniels did appear tone-deaf when he expressed what he truly thought of Michiganders who voted for the president. “I hope you’re losing money those of you who thought this would be okay,” he said.

Meanwhile, the stock market has hit record highs in recent months. On Friday, CNBC reported the S&P 500 rose and closed out a winning week. The outlet reported it followed solid earnings results after recent trade deals brokered by Trump. In addition, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 58 points.
“I’m just an actor. What do I know?”
Daniels, who did talk on the podcast about his cinema career, could not stay away from being Trump-triggered, especially when it came to the prices of groceries and the impact of tariffs.
“Who do I blame about that? One person,” Daniels said, referring to Trump.
However, both grocery and gas prices have been inching down since Trump took office in January. Supermarket News reported in May that grocery prices fell in April for the first time in 2025. That marked the largest monthly in decrease in five years.
In that same timeframe, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs declined 1.6% in April. Cereals dropped 0.5% in April; produce fell 0.4%.
Also, gas prices nationwide dropped to a new four-year low over Independence Day.
Michigan voted Red.
Nicolle Wallace, who masquerades as a journalist from time to time and works for the left-leaning MSNBC, asked Daniels, “Michigan voted for Trump this time again, right? ” Yes, it did. In fact, Daniels’ friends and neighbors voted overwhelmingly for Trump, further embarrassing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in her efforts to keep Michigan blue for Kamala Harris.
“I still think about Kamala and how I think she would have been a good choice,” Daniels said. “She would have done what Lincoln did.”

Daniels did not clarify what those Lincoln tactics would have looked like under Harris, not did he address the fact that Lincoln was a Republican.
Daniels is confused: women run Michigan but many voted for Trump.
The Chelsea-based actor also pontificated on why Michigan elected a trifecta of women, and support “rising star” State Sen. Mallory McMorrow in her bid for U.S. Senate, but cast their ballots for Trump in November 2024.
“I thought Michigan would get swept in the ‘New America’ [and] that we were the generation,” Daniels said. “That was going to go, ‘no, we’re ready, all inclusive. It’s going to be the best of all of us not just some of us.”
Whatever Daniels’ “New America” looks like to him, Michigan will have another shot to elect leaders in the top state jobs in November 2026. Democrats Gov. Whitmer, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and Attorney General Dana Nessel are all term-limited. Benson is running for governor.
