LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The state’s regional unemployment rates increased by a median of 0.3 percentage points in June, according to Michigan’s Department Of Technology, Management, and Budget.

Fourteen of the state’s 18 regional labor markets saw an increase in not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates, according to the report.

In the regional markets, unemployment rates ranged from 4.5 to 7.3% in June, the report said. Battle Creek’s metropolitan statistical area (MSA) was hit the hardest, with a jobless rate gain of 0.5% in June.
“Michigan regional labor markets saw typical June unemployment rate increases,” Wayne Rourke, labor market information director for the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics, said in a press release. “June nonfarm employment increased across the state.”
Unemployment rates decreased in the Detroit MSA, the Northeast Lower Michigan region, and the Upper Peninsula. The Northwest Lower Michigan unemployment rate has remained the same since May.

Unemployment rates increased in 46 of 83 Michigan counties. Livingston County had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.4%. Oscoda County had the highest unemployment rate of 10.7%.
