STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — A thief with a collector’s eye made off with about $50,000 in rare Pokémon cards from a Sterling Heights hobby shop, leaving the owner stunned—and offering a hefty reward.
Jonathan Gappy, owner of First Edition Finds, said the break-in happened just after midnight on July 30.

He received an alert from his security system and watched the crime unfold in real time on his phone. By the time police arrived, however, the suspect was gone, Fox 10 News reported.
“We pulled up the cameras and actively saw the burglar inside taking things and vandalizing the store,” Gappy said. “It was honestly something we were never expecting.”
According to Gappy, the burglar went straight for the shop’s most valuable graded cards—items authenticated and rated “10 out of 10” for their pristine condition.
“He definitely knew what he was after,” Gappy said. “He made a beeline to our most expensive items behind the shelf.”
The theft is a heavy blow for the family-owned store, which opened just two months ago. Some of the stolen cards, Gappy said, carried sentimental value, including collectibles he and his daughter had pulled from packs on Christmas morning.
Despite the loss, Gappy isn’t shutting his doors. Instead, he’s offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the thief’s capture.

“All I can say is … just be aware of the people inside your store because it’s definitely scary what’s going on right now,” Gappy said.
