ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Two years of the NCAA’s investigation into Michigan football over sign-stealing have led to an NCAA press conference on Friday afternoon. The NCAA will announce the punishments for the University of Michigan and the football program for their sign-stealing scandal from 2021 through 2023.

The NCAA notified Michigan of the release of the findings on Friday, August 15, through a press conference. The times the NCAA has held press conferences for punishments have been in 2017 for Baylor University football and Louisville men’s basketball (stripped national title), 2012 for Penn State and the Jerry Sandusky findings, and SMU in 1987.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel has reported that Michigan will receive a severe fine in the millions, $10 to $14 million, show cause for Jim Harbaugh and Connor Stalions, and a more severe suspension for head coach Sherrone Moore.

During the past two and a half years, several coaches from the Michigan football staff have left, been fired, or let go due to being arrested, coaching violations, or social media items. Harbaugh left after the 2023 season for the NFL and took several coaches with him.

These punishments will already be on top of the 2021 NCAA investigation for recruiting violations during the COVID-19 dead period era. Harbaugh already has a four-year show cause from this investigation. Moore also received a suspension from that investigation and may face a more severe suspension with the sign-stealing scandal.
