DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The Detroit Public Schools Community District is spending $345,000 to modernize its student records archives.
The district has more than 1.6 million physical records it has in a vault that date back to 1964. The district moves its student records to the vault after two years.

But student records before 2015 require a manual search using outdated media formats such as CDs or microfiche. A request for such historical records can take up to 45 days to fulfill.
The district started modernizing its older paper records to digital in 2023 when it received a $250,000 grant.
