LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — West Michigan’s last coal plant isn’t done yet.

The Trump administration has once again ordered Consumers Energy’s J.H. Campbell facility to keep burning, extending operations through Nov. 19.

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright issued the new directive on August 20th, citing grid reliability and the risk of Midwest blackouts, WOODTV.com reported. It’s the second such order this year; the first pushed Campbell past its scheduled May shutdown.

The back-to-back extensions have reignited a battle that’s been smoldering for months. Attorney General Dana Nessel—who has already challenged the May order—blasted the move as federal overreach that ignores state regulators and “potentially puts enormous costs onto utility customers who receive no real benefit.”

For now, Campbell will continue burning—at least through Thanksgiving.
