DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Checking the books of a municipality doesn’t come cheap.

The city of Detroit approved spending a combined $9.6 million in a pair of five-year contracts for accounting services from the firm Plante & Moran. The deal was reviewed at the Sept. 2 meeting. The contracts run from 2026 through 2031.

Once a year, municipalities hire a third-party accounting firm to audit their financial budget.

Earlier this year, the city of Flint approved paying accounting firm Rehmann Robson $289,000 to conduct its fiscal year 2024 audit. The city council also agreed to pay Rehmann Robson up to $306,000 for its FY 2025 audit.
