LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — Michigan’s bathroom debate is moving from the hallway to the Senate.
By a 58–46 vote on September 4, the state House passed the Restroom Privacy Act, a Republican-backed measure requiring that students use restrooms consistent with their biological sex. Six members did not vote, according to the Lansing State Journal.

“No individual, especially a young person, should live in fear,” sponsor Rep. Joseph Fox (R-Fremont) said. “Especially for using a private space like a restroom, a changing area or a shower.”
Exceptions are included for custodial work, medical aid, or caregivers assisting students.
The Democratic-controlled Senate, however, has indicated it will not advance the legislation.
