CORUNNA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – When Corunna High School senior Clark Cody heard his name announced as this year’s Homecoming King on Friday, Sept. 12, the honor was bestowed on him by a familiar face – his brother.

Evan Cody, voted Corunna’s Homecoming King in 2024, wrapped his brother in a big hug after hearing Clark’s name announced.

“We are very close,” Clark told Michigan News Source. “[Evan] pulls me out of my shell since he is more social and I am more shy so we complement each other well.” Clark added, “I know he was very proud to be able to crown me.”

The feeling is mutual. Evan, who is also 17 and training as an electrical apprentice, describes his relationship with his brother as “solid” and said they’ve always looked out for each other. “He is everything I’d want in a brother and I don’t know what I’d do without him,” Evan said.

Clark wore many hats on homecoming night beyond just his crown. He led the marching band as the drum major after racing in a cross country meet earlier that day. He’s also spent his four years in high school on various sports teams and clubs, including the soccer team, swim team, drama club, Rotary, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

He added that one of the most memorable moments that night stemmed from his Christian faith. “I loved that we [the court] had an opportunity to pray over the game, the evening, and thank God for our blessings,” he said.

Following graduation, Clark plans to attend Michigan State University to major in music education and be a member of the Spartan Marching Band. No doubt Evan will continue to pass on more than just a crown to his brother.

“Moments like [homecoming] are exciting, but we know there are big problems in the world,” Evan said. “All we can do is pray and everyday be a better human. It opens our eyes to the importance of love and speaking truth” he said.
