The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad arrived on scene and deployed a remote- controlled robot to inspect and defuse the explosive. Officials confirmed the pipe bomb was active, but thanks to the robot-assisted operation, the device was disabled safely without injury. The gun range was temporarily closed during the response but reopened later that day once authorities declared the area secure.

Motive and suspect unknown.

At this stage, investigators have not identified a suspect or motive. Authorities are treating the case seriously, emphasizing that an active explosive device in a public setting represents a significant risk to safety. While the discovery rattled some in the community, no injuries or damage occurred.

Public asked to help.

Michigan State Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be directed to the Sault Ste. Marie Post at 906-632-2217. Investigators hope the public can help shed light on who left the device at the range and why.
