HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The drama and chaos surrounding the city of Hamtramck’s police chief apparently came to end when the city council published a settlement agreement at its Oct. 14 meeting.

Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri was accused of giving a loaded weapon to a civilian and telling the civilian to point it at a person’s head as well as driving intoxicated with other officers to a strip bar in his city owned vehicle. Altaheri was also accused of not firing a police officer accused of committing timecard fraud under the condition the officer deleted a video he had of Altaheri driving recklessly to the strip club.

At the Aug. 26 meeting, it was announced that the police chief would be fired by the city manager after a damaging report was released detailing allegations against Altaheri.

But the settlement allows Altaheri to voluntarily resign on Aug. 25, the day before that city council meeting. It also gives him a severance agreement of five months base salary.

The city stated Altaheri had taken legal action against the city. The settlement states that all claims are considered settled in regards to Altaheri’s employment with the city.
