TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A ski club in northern Michigan is banking on marijuana funds to give its city-owned slopes a little lift.
The Grand Traverse Ski Club is asking for $61,500 to make improvements at the Traverse City-owned Hickory Hills Ski Area. The improvements would center around the “Investing in Youth Mental Health and Community Resilience Through Winter Recreation” project.

Officials say the investment would help make equipment and safety upgrades like adding an additional snowmaker, increasing the amount of on-hill radios for increased communication between volunteers and coaches, and replacing the race timing system.
The next Hickory Hills Advisory Commission meeting is Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in the Hickory Hills Lodge in Traverse City.
