DEARBORN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – In February 2024, Steven Stalinsky wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal titled, “Welcome to Dearborn, America’s Jihad Capital.”

The Democrats attack.

Stalinsky, executive director of the Middle East Media Research Institute, was attacked by Democrat politicians. Even then President Joe Biden criticized the piece on X.

“Americans know that blaming a group of people based on the words of a small few is wrong. That’s exactly what can lead to Islamophobia and anti-Arab hate, and it shouldn’t happen to the residents of Dearborn – or any American town,” Biden posted on X. “We must continue to condemn hate in all forms.”

Stalinsky, who works for the Middle East Media Research Institute that tracks terrorism in the United States, said that people focused too much on the headline of his op-ed. He said the article was accurate and had online hyperlinks that verified his claims. Stalinsky’s op-ed focused on the support for U.S. designated terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah, anti-Israel rallies and comments made online by prominent Muslim leaders. Many Americans are unaware of the comments because they are made in Arabic.

Alleged terror plot thwarted.

This week, the FBI released a criminal complaint that spelled out how a group of men were planning for a mass casualty attack around Halloween. The two Muslim men charged in planning the attack are Dearborn residents. The group of men had purchased multiple guns, had practiced shooting at a gun range and had scouted potential targets at Ferndale bars that catered to the LGBTQ crowd, according to the FBI.

“Threats are ongoing.”

In addition, Stalinsky said this was not a one-time thing in Michigan this year. He cited other cases including:

  • Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, of Melvindale, was arrested and charged with planning to attempt a mass shooting at a U.S. military base in Warren.
  • Aws Mohammed Naser, 37, of Westland, was convicted in June of attempting to provide material support to ISIS.
  • Jibreel Pratt, 26, of Detroit, pled guilty in July to concealing monetary donations he planned to give to ISIS.

“Regular Americans kind of think we are safe,” Stalinsky said. “They don’t realize these threats are ongoing.”
