DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – After a federal investigation revealed that NBA insiders were allegedly dabbling in mafia-backed poker rings and rigged prop bets, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) decided to flex its regulatory muscles in a recent press release that reaffirms the state’s commitment to protect “the integrity of sports betting through robust regulatory safeguards and oversight.”
Watching the bets like a hawk.
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams assured the public that Michigan’s sports betting has proactive safeguards designed to detect and deter misconduct before it occurs and said, “We’ve built a regulatory structure that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and consumer protection.”
Prop bets are the new red flags.

The MGCB says it will be keeping a close eye on player proposition wagers (bets tied to an individual player’s performance rather than the game’s outcome). These are the same type of bets reportedly manipulated in the recent NBA scandal.
Other measures implemented by the MGCB include mandatory integrity monitoring, review and approval of events and wager types, prohibition on insider betting and internal control requirements as outlined in their press release.

The MGCB also reminded Michiganders that gambling should be viewed as entertainment, not a source of income. Anyone struggling with a gambling problem can contact the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER for confidential support.
