DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Spirit Plaza in downtown Detroit was prepared for a movement last Saturday. Posters were printed. Megaphones were charged. The rhetoric was polished and ready to roll. The only thing missing? The crowd.

According to the Detroit Free Press, one organizer blamed the turnout on the cold, claiming they usually draw around 50 people. In reality, the roughly 12 people present included the organizers and speakers themselves – meaning the actual audience struggled to break into double digits.

Apparently, it was too cold for protesters to show up to insist that Detroit city officials divest from Israel and other “war profiteers” or demand the city becomes a sanctuary city – two of their main requests. They also want community control of the police.

The “DROP Trump Coalition,” a progressive activist network dedicated to “Defeating, Removing, Ousting, and/or Deposing” Donald Trump, convened what was advertised as a major push to mobilize voters and send a message. However, the message this time ended up being: nobody showed up.

Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield (recently elected to be Detroit’s first female mayor) delivered remarks anyway, but even the pigeons on the plaza benches looked like they were just waiting for something else to happen.
