LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s Poverty Task Force has a new webinar available, and it appears to have less to do with helping struggling Michiganders and more to do with hosting a job recruitment drive for people who are noncitizens.
Today’s big event? A state-promoted Zoom webinar offered by the Michigan Dept. of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) and spotlighting “employment opportunities for immigrants and refugees.” Yes, Michigan tax dollars are sponsoring a statewide job- search pep rally and information session for who the Democrats in Michigan government often call “newcomers.”
The webinar will be a virtual discussion about the resources available to support immigrants and refugees who are “facing barriers to employment.”
In the announcement of the event, the state packaged it all neatly with other resources including digital-inclusion links, energy assistance, and rental-assistance reminders.
And for taxpayers who already feel like Lansing treats them as a bottomless ATM, this shines a pretty bright light on where the priorities are for our state government. While Michigan families wrestle with rising costs, shrinking services, and real barriers of their own, the state, under Democratic control, continues to roll out the virtual red carpet for taxpayer-funded assistance for foreign-born individuals.
