In addition, the Sergeants at arms will provide security at events lawmakers attend as part of their job. The new law will help Sergeants at arms coordinate more effectively with local law enforcement agencies.

This new law comes at an opportune time. Last month, anti-ICE protestors showed up at the homes of Representatives Angela Rigas (R-Caledonia) and Bryan Posthumus (R-Rockford) along with State Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids). It was part of what the group called its “Tour of Shame” of legislators who prioritized Michigan residents over illegal aliens.
