GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A plant in Grand Rapids previously slated for closure is getting a new lease on life.

Otsego-based Safari Circuits, an electronics manufacturer, acquired Lacroix Electronics. Earlier this year, Lacroix announced plans to close its plant as part of a plan to move operations out of North America. That move would have left 116 workers without jobs. The acquisition will not only save those jobs, but add another twenty to it.

Craig Nelson, president of Safari Circuits, said similar production work performed at both Safari and Lacroix made the acquisition a logical next step. “We are thrilled to acquire this production facility and provide a new and brighter future for the 116 people at the plant who were slated to lose their jobs,” Nelson said in a statement to the media.

The sale, completed in September, also renames Lacroix Electronics to Safari Grand Rapids. In addition, the company intends to invest $750,000 in new equipment.
