SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is dealing out a winning sum from casino profits to its members.

The Tribe is set to payout more than $856,000 to organizations across the Upper Peninsula. The money is part of the Tribe’s 2% allocation from casino gaming operations during the autumn season.

Organizations in Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac, Schoolcraft, Alger, Delta, and Marquette Counties will receive the funds, including:

  • Lake Superior State University (mobile robotics)
  • Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department (CAD Unit)
  • Rudyard Schools (cardio lab)
  • Garfield Township (Wildland fire fighting boots)
  • City of St. Ignace ( fire department lighting and a police department ballistic shield)
  • Schoolcraft Hospital (LUCAS Unit – a portable, mechanical device that provides consistent, high-quality chest compressions for patients in sudden cardiac arrest)
  • Schoolcraft Medical Facility (insomnia carts)
  • Munising Township Fire Department (update its 800 MHz radio)
  • Alger County Sheriff’s Department (emergency backpacks)
