GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A preschool nonprofit meant to help low-income kids in West Michigan was basically robbed blind. Democrat donor, Dr. Nkechy Ezeh – once celebrated as an education leader – pleaded guilty to wire fraud and tax evasion on January 14 after siphoning off more than $1.4 million from a program serving at-risk preschoolers, forcing it to shut down. She funneled money into fake invoices and phony daycare businesses and paid for tropical vacations. It left the real children who actually needed help paying the price.

Minneapolis Somalis accused of taking child care dollars.

Shifting back north, Minnesota is facing fraud scandals on multiple fronts. Federal aid intended to feed schoolchildren during COVID was allegedly looted to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, while separate state investigations have examined suspected abuse within child-care assistance programs.

In both cases, funds intended to support vulnerable children appear to have been diverted through networks operating within Minneapolis’ Somali community, effectively turning public assistance into personal profit. These scandals have unfolded in a city with overwhelmingly Democratic politics. In the 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris received 85.02% of the vote in Minneapolis, compared to 11.73% for President Donald J. Trump.

Unaccompanied border kids: missing in action.

Meanwhile at the southern border, tens of thousands of unaccompanied migrant children who crossed into the U.S. under the Biden administration’s policies, were released to unvetted sponsors without robust tracking. A government inspector general and congressional Republicans have warned that hundreds of thousands of these minors were lost in the system, potentially vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. In 2025, the Trump administration located 129,143 of these children.

After locating the children, the Trump administration says agencies now verify the child’s safety, confirm who they are living with, and check whether the placement followed the law. Cases involving abuse, trafficking, or criminal activity are referred for enforcement or protective action, and children can be moved into protective custody if a situation is deemed unsafe.

One phone, 65,000 missed cries for help.

To add insult to injury, a Biden-Harris administration hotline created for unaccompanied migrant children to report abuse, assault, or trafficking was effectively nonfunctional, according to testimony highlighted during a congressional hearing. From August 2023 through January 2025, roughly 65,000 calls reportedly went unanswered because of inadequate training, inadequate software and other issues. Lawmakers expressed alarm that reports involving rape, exploitation, and forced labor were left unaddressed during that period. After the administration changed, Trump-era HHS officials moved to triage the backlog, processing tens of thousands of reports and generating thousands of investigative leads tied to trafficking and related crimes – underscoring how badly the system had failed the very children it was meant to protect.

ICE spokesperson Laszlo Baksay said in a June 2025 press release, “Children’s safety and security is nonnegotiable. The previous administration’s failure to implement meaningful safeguards has allowed vulnerable kids to fall into the hands of criminals. Our special agents are working tirelessly to locate these alien children, ensure their protection, and hold accountable those who have abused the system.”

It’s also become a point of public concern that many of the illegal immigrants being apprehended in border enforcement actions include individuals with criminal histories that include child sexual assault. These are the illegal immigrants that anti-ICE Democrats are protecting and protesting in support of in Minneapolis and all over the rest of the country.

In Minnesota, a viral video on January 18 showed an ICE agent confronting activists and media who were following a federal operation to arrest an alleged child sex offender, telling them they were disrupting the raid. The agent accused the bystanders of impeding the investigation and “protecting” the suspect and called them “insane.”

ICE’s social media accounts frequently highlight the outcomes of immigration enforcement operations, including numerous arrests of illegal immigrants accused of assaulting children. There are so many documented media reports about the subject that it’s easy to see just how widespread the problem is. And now, as we reported recently, Americans can even go to a website to see how many arrests are being made in their own state.

Finally, Democrats’ unwavering support for abortion rights is often packaged in softer language like “pro- choice,” “health care,” and “reproductive rights.” Strip away the slogans, and what it ultimately involves is ending the life of a baby who has no voice, no choice, and no chance to take a first breath.

Taken together, these stories reveal a disturbing pattern. When it comes to children, Democrats’ lofty promises of protection repeatedly give way to neglect, mismanagement, or outright damage. Public money meant for vulnerable kids is stolen, minors disappear into a broken border system, criminals accused of abusing children are shielded from enforcement, and lives are ended before they ever begin. The rhetoric is compassionate, but the results are anything but.
