LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) — This weekend, grab your fishing pole and head outdoors — it’s Michigan’s biannual Free Fishing Weekend.

During Feb. 14-15, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will waive the requirement for a fishing license, allowing both Michigan residents and non-residents to fish in Michigan lakes for free.

Additionally, none of Michigan’s 103 state parks and recreation areas will require Recreational Passports. But take caution if you plan to go ice fishing — the DNR recommends consulting these ice safety tips.

All species of fish are legal to catch over the weekend, although fishing regulations will still apply.

The next Free Fishing Weekend will take place over June 13-14.
