WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – The White House highlighted Republican politicians from Michigan recently in promoting the voter ID legislation.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or SAVE Act, was passed by the U.S. House and sent to the Senate on Friday. It would require voters to provide proof of citizenship to be able to vote as well as producing a voter ID to cast a ballot in a federal election.

“It’s time to restore real trust in our elections,” the White House posted on X. “Michigan leaders are calling for action: Pass the SAVE America Act NOW to secure election integrity and ensure only American citizens vote.”
The video shows State Rep. Mike Hoadley (R-Au Gres), Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall (R-Comstock Township), State Rep. Jason Woolford (R-Howell) and State Rep. Ann Bolin (R-Brighton Township) all promoting the SAVE Act.
Republicans support the legislation.
“My @HouseGOP colleagues and I just passed the SAVE America Act to protect U.S. election integrity,” U.S. Congressman Troy Downing (R-Montana) posted on X. “Take note, @SenateDems. You may not like it, but your constituents overwhelmingly support common-sense voter reform. Don’t let this die and let them down.”
The League of Conservation Voters is against the legislation.
“Make no mistake – this is voter suppression, plain and simple,” the League of Conservation Voters stated. “It’s already illegal for noncitizens to vote in federal elections, and every state already has strong protections in place to prevent noncitizens from voting.”

An earlier version of the SAVE Act was passed last year by the House but didn’t get past the Senate.
